Energy Conservation Poster Contest

We recognize Earth Day in April, and in order to generate interest in that and in the district energy conservation program, we’re announcing our Third Triennial Energy Conservation Poster Contest!
Below you’ll find the rules and guidelines.

Intermediate/Middle School Campuses – Because energy conservation and its impact on the environment fits so squarely with science curriculum, I would recommend copies going home with students through science classes.  Otherwise they could simply be made available at a central location and then advertised regularly.  Collection should be whatever works best for your campus.  Posters are due by April 30th, 2018 and will be picked up on Tuesday, May 1st from the main office.
Who May Enter: All MISD Students (K-12)

Three Levels: Elementary, Intermediate/Middle, and High School

Deadline: Monday, April 30, 2018 by the end of the school day

One entry per level will be recognized as the winner at the May MISD School Board Meeting and will be displayed prominently at the Center for Performing Arts.

Theme: Conserving Electric Energy

Begin by coming up with an original slogan or saying that supports conserving electric energy and/or being Earth-friendly. Your slogan should appear prominently within the poster. The contents of the poster must depict the use or non-use of electric energy and the impact it has on our school, community, society, or world.   Poster must also include the ENERGY STAR logo, although it does not have to be the main focus. The ENERGY STAR logo should be no larger than 3”x 6” or 5”x5”, depending on which version of the logo is used.

Images of the ENERGY STAR logo can found when you Google the words “ENERGY STAR logo”. You may use any of the blue/white, black/white, or Earth-backed logos. (See Flyer for Examples)

Poster Specifications:

Poster Size:  11” X 17” only (either vertical or horizontal is permitted)

Originality of the Poster: The poster must be the original work of the student.  Artwork should be accomplished in the classroom or at home, under the supervision of a teacher or other adult.

Poster materials: The poster may be constructed of tag/poster board or heavy paper; construction paper or copy paper may be used as the base for the artwork, but the finished product must be mounted to tag/poster board.  NO LAMINATION is permitted.

Artwork (Content of Poster): Methods of achieving colors and other aspects may include felt pen, crayon, cut paper, markers, paints, etc.  No glitter, please. Lettering/artwork must be original, free-hand work by the student, including the ENERGY STAR logo.  Lettering should be clearly legible. High school entries may be created by hand or with digital/graphic design tools, although all other guidelines for content must be followed.

AVOID the use of wood, plastic, glass, metal, or similar materials in the construction of the poster.

AVOID the use of copyrighted characters such as cartoon figures, celebrities, or any part or portion of any item which may be protected by copyright laws, such as magazines, newspapers, books, photographs, etc.

Judging: Winners will be selected by a group of panelists whose decision is final. Winners will be notified by May 4th, 2018 and will be recognized at the May 2018 School Board Meeting.

ATTENTION: Please accurately follow all requirements and restrictions, as failure to do so will subject the entry to disqualification. Non-winning entries will be returned to home campuses as long as student information is noted on the back of the entry. Winning posters will be retained and publicly displayed to promote the MISD Energy Conservation Program.
